Since my logical volume group name is 0, I tried to create a new logical volume using: sudo lvcreate -L 20G -n lv_vm_ubuntu /dev/0. But the following error was output: Volume group "0" has insufficient free space (0 extents): 5120 required. Here's information on my disks: sudo lsblk -o NAME,FSTYPE,SIZE,MOUNTPOINT,LABEL. So you need to either make your partitions minimum size larger, or your lv's minimum size smaller. Yusuf, can you confirm that this is the case here ? Error: storage configuration failed: ('new lv is too large to fit in free space', 'vg00') The wrong configuration: part /boot --fstype="xfs" --ondisk=vda --size=500. part pv.01 --fstype="lvmpv" --ondisk=vda --size=9500 --grow. volgroup vg00 --pesize=4096 pv.01.If you're going to resize the LV it would be easier to use lvreduce --resizefs which as the man page says: 'Resize underlying filesystem together with the LV using fsadm(8).' That way you don't have to worry about the order or otherwise messing up the resizing.
These are the steps required to resize an LVM or LVM2 partition: sudo lvresize --verbose --resizefs -L -150G /dev/ubuntu/root. sudo pvresize --setphysicalvolumesize {any size here} /dev/sda5. The last command, pvresize, may yield the error. /dev/sda5: cannot resize to xxxxx extents as later ones are allocated. I would highly recommend that instead of trying to resize your partitions, you figure out why your root partition (/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-ubuntu--lv) is full, and try to reduce its disk usage. On most computers I manage, the root partition can fit into a 15 GB space.lvresize -L +5G /dev/MY_LVM/root. Followed by resizing your filesystem: resize2fs /dev/MY_LVM/root. (or whatever tool is apropriate for your filesystem). Alternatively, move the hibernation/swap space to your 70GB free space, delete the lv_swap volume and add some space to lv_root. I got this while trying to avoid bug 581801 by editing the volume group rather than directly creating a new logical volume.
